About DeirdreI am a psychotherapist accredited with the European Association of Psychotherapy, Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and also the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy.
I am an Accredited Supervision with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (I.A.C.P). I completed a Diploma in Supervision for Health Care Professionals from Turning Point Institute. |
I qualified from Dublin Business School in 2008 with a Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and got my accreditation with the I.A.C.P. in 2011. Since then I have worked in different counselling centres, private practices and charity organisations such as Nurture. At present I am working only in private practice.
I have worked with adult clients over 18 years with different problems and traumas. I have worked with clients from workplace referral basis on a short-term basis i.e. 6 sessions but mainly work with numerous clients on a longer term basis and on issues as described here. I attend supervision of my work with a qualified and accredited I.A.H.I.P. supervisor. I also do group supervision with other therapists in a confidential and professional manner.
As a therapist I must continuously develop my skills and capacity to sit with clients in their anguish and pain. I attend courses and workshops to keep me fresh and alive in my work. I obtained an advanced diploma course in Gestalt therapy and attended workshops about mindfulness, dreams and trauma work. I have become very interested in the body's role in holding onto painful memories and how the body can inform us of what is really going on for ourselves. Hakomi Body Psychotherapy informs my practice in the role of the body in trauma and more importantly in healing. I like to help my clients focus mindfully on their feelings and body's response in the present moment to gain more innate wisdom.
I believe also that I need to be able to understand, process and integrate my own emotions and life experiences and therefore I attend a therapist to help me achieve this. I do believe that I need to be able to help myself before I can help others.
