Stress
According to Medical News Today we are stressed “when when we feel that everything seems to have become too much – we are overloaded and wonder whether we really can cope with the pressures placed upon us.”
Stress can be good for us and help us to get focused in life, but when it starts undermining our health and well-being it is bad. We feel stressed when we’re under pressure, and stressors are the things that cause us to feel stressed. Stressors are not the same for all people.
When the pressure is too high, it activates our fight or flight response, which is our bodies’ way of preparing us to deal with a physical threat. Even though the threats we face nowadays seldom require any physical action, our bodies still produce chemicals like cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine and our heart rate increases. This can become a habit, which means that we end up feeling stressed even when it’s not necessary.
10 examples of stress symptoms:
- Inability to concentrate
- Nervousness and anxiety
- Insomnia
- Irritability and short temper
- Constant worrying
- Depression
- High blood pressure
- Digestive problems
- Substance abuse
- Loss of sex drive
